February 22, 2016 - Office of Consumer Advocate Opposes Black Hills Energy's Plan to Acquire Natural Gas Reserves - On February 17, 2016 the Wyoming Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) filed testimony with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) opposing Black Hills Energy’s plan to acquire gas reserves as part of its portfolio of gas supplies to serve its customers in Wyoming and five other western and mid-western states. The OCA’s testimony details a number of problems with the proposal including the fact that market prices for natural gas are currently at historically low levels and are projected to stay that way for an extended time. The case is scheduled to be heard by the Wyoming Public Service Commission at public hearings beginning on May 2, 2016.
July 29, 2015 - OCA Recommends Substantial Reduction in Requested Increase in Rocky Mountain Power Electric Rates - On July 28, 2015 the Wyoming Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) filed testimony with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) recommending that the requested rates for Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) be reduced by nearly 60% to reflect rate levels that are more in line with RMP’s actual cost of providing electric service to customers. The OCA also has proposed a modification to the future Energy Cost Adjustment Mechanism that preserves a sharing of costs and addresses some of RMP’s concerns about various commodity issues.
May 5, 2015 - OCA Recommends Substantial Reduction in Gas Rates - On April 15, 2015 the Wyoming Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) filed testimony with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) recommending that the rates for Pinedale Natural Gas (PNG) be reduced by nearly 20% to reflect rate levels that are more in line with PNG’s actual cost of providing gas service to customers. The OCA also contends that interest is owed to customers as a result of over-collected gas costs in the amount of $158,444 and advocated for the return of over-earnings to customers of approximately $240,000.
August 27, 2013 - OCA Files Comments with the EPA Regarding Regional Haze - The OCA has filed comments with the Environmental Protection Agency urging it to approve the Regional Haze State Implementation Plan, as developed by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality in consultation with participating stakeholders, and not implement the proposed Federal Implementation Plan.
